debunking myths!

There is a lot information (as well as misinformation) when it comes to topics regarding gender, sexuality, and sexual health, especially when talking to and about young people. We are here to drop some refreshing knowledge on ya!

Myth #1: Having or getting a sexually transmitted infection (STI) is uncommon.

Fact: Actually, contracting a STI is pretty common occurrence! 1 in 2 sexually active people will contract a STI by age 25.

If we really think about it, STIs really should be treated as society does other infections, like a sinus infection or the common cold. Destigmatizing STIs can lead folks to seeking help sooner!

Myth #2: Consent is only important in regards to sex.

Fact: Consent is always important regarding sex, but consent is always happening and can be applied to many parts of life whether it is asking if one can post a picture on social media or asking a friend to an event!

Myth #3: All orgasms are explosive and mind blowing!

Fact: It is super normal for orgasms to feel different; each orgasms will vary in characteristic and intensity each time it happens!

Myth #4: Once you've had an sti like chlamydia and have been cured, you can't get it again.

Fact: There are different types of STIs. They are usually categorized as bacterial, viral or parasitic. If a person as been cured of bacterial or parasitic STI, they can contract a bacterial or parasitic STI again if they are having unprotected sex with a partner who has this infection. Viral STIs are not curable but always remember: ALL STIs ARE TREATABLE!

Myth #5: Young people are obsessed with sex.

Fact: The truth is young people are curious, have questions and deserve to have access to accurate information that can help them make the best decision for themselves!
